General Terms and Conditions

This is an English translation for convenience. In case of any discrepancy, the Icelandic version applies.

RentEvent ehf. (hereinafter “RentEvent”) rents out equipment for events, provides set-up and bartending services and sells certain products on the website rentevent.is.

2. Scope and acceptance

These terms apply to all orders for rentals, services and products from RentEvent, whether the order is placed on the website, by email or by phone. By confirming an order, the customer (hereinafter “the hirer”) accepts these terms, RentEvent’s rental terms (including the rules on cancellations and refunds) and RentEvent’s privacy policy. The hirer must be at least 18 years old.

If these terms conflict with the rental terms, the rental terms take precedence regarding the rental of equipment, tents and bartending services.

3. Orders and contract

  • A binding contract is formed when the hirer has confirmed and paid for an order and RentEvent has sent an order confirmation to the email address provided.
  • The order confirmation states the equipment, services, date and price. The hirer must check it and notify RentEvent without delay if anything is incorrect.
  • All bookings are subject to availability. If equipment turns out not to be available because of an error in the booking system, RentEvent will notify the hirer without delay and give a full refund for anything that cannot be delivered.
  • RentEvent reserves the right to correct obvious errors in prices or product descriptions. The hirer may then choose to keep the order at the correct price or cancel it and receive a full refund.

4. Prices and payment

  • All prices on the website are in Icelandic krónur (ISK) and include value added tax: 24% on rentals and services and 11% on food products such as syrups.
  • The total price of the order, including the cost of delivery and additional services, is shown before the order is confirmed. In the capital area, delivery and collection are free for orders over ISK 10,000. For orders below that, a delivery fee of ISK 4,990 is added and shown as a separate line before you pay.
  • Payment is made on the website at the time of booking through secure payment gateways. RentEvent does not have access to card details.
  • If payment by bank transfer or invoice has been specially agreed, the due date stated on the invoice applies. After the due date, penalty interest is charged in accordance with Act No. 38/2001 on Interest and Price Indexation.
  • The invoice is issued to the party and ID number (kennitala) that the hirer provides.

5. Delivery, return and responsibility for equipment

The hirer is responsible for the rented equipment during the rental period and must return it at the agreed time. Detailed rules on delivery, return, cleaning, damage, party tents and bartending services are set out in RentEvent’s rental terms, which form part of the contract.

6. Cancellations and refunds

Cancellations, postponements and refunds are governed by RentEvent’s rental terms. The rental of equipment and services for an event tied to a specific date generally falls under the exemption in point (l) of Article 18 of Act No. 16/2016 on Consumer Contracts from the 14-day right of withdrawal. Instead, the cancellation rules of the rental terms apply.

7. Products sold

Products that RentEvent sells (rather than rents), such as syrups and disposable cups, are governed by the Consumer Sales Act No. 48/2003 when the buyer is a consumer, and by the Sale of Goods Act No. 50/2000 in other cases.

8. RentEvent’s liability

  • RentEvent guarantees that equipment is in working order on delivery and that services are provided professionally.
  • RentEvent’s liability is limited to direct loss and to a maximum of the amount the hirer paid for the order in question. RentEvent is not liable for indirect or consequential loss.
  • This limitation does not apply if the loss is caused by RentEvent’s intent or gross negligence, nor does it restrict consumers’ mandatory statutory rights.
  • RentEvent is not liable for failure to perform caused by events beyond its control (force majeure), such as storms, natural disasters, impassable roads or orders from the authorities.

9. Privacy

RentEvent processes personal data in accordance with Act No. 90/2018. The processing is described in more detail in RentEvent’s privacy policy.

10. Changes to the terms

RentEvent reserves the right to change these terms. Changes take effect when published on the website and never apply retroactively to orders the hirer has already confirmed and paid for. Each order is governed by the terms in force when it was confirmed.

11. Governing law and jurisdiction

These terms are governed by Icelandic law, including Act No. 30/2002 on Electronic Commerce and Other Electronic Services and Act No. 16/2016 on Consumer Contracts. If a dispute arises, the parties shall try to resolve it amicably. Consumers may also refer a dispute to the Complaints Committee on Goods and Services (kærunefnd vöru- og þjónustukaupa, www.kvth.is). Otherwise, proceedings shall be brought before the Reykjavík District Court (Héraðsdómur Reykjavíkur).
