Glasses are one of those things that get forgotten until an hour into the party, when there's not a clean glass left. Here's how many you need, which kinds, and when it's worth choosing glass or plastic.
How many glasses per guest?
Allow 2–3 glasses per guest over the evening if there's no washing up on site. People put their glass down, forget where, and pick up a new one. If you're serving beer, wine and cocktails, each guest often needs more than one glass of each kind they drink from.

Example: 50 guests
For a party of 50 with beer, wine and cocktails, the mix might be 50 beer glasses, 40 wine glasses and 35 cocktail glasses. That's 125 glasses, and hire is ISK 32,175 for the day. Return them unwashed and we do the washing up.
Glass or plastic?
Glass does more for a party. The drink tastes better, the table looks better and no plastic ends up in the bin. Disposable plastic cups still have their place, though:
- Outdoors on the grass and in a tent, where a glass can fall and break.
- When there are children running around or the party is very large.
- At the beer tap, when lots of people are queuing and glasses disappear fast.
Our plastic cups are 40 cl, made from recycled rPET and sold in packs of 50 for ISK 2,794. Many people go for a mix: glass at the dining table and plastic at the tap outside.
Do you need to wash up?
